Appleby is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Raftopoulos as Managing Partner of its Cayman Islands office, succeeding long‑standing leader Norman Klein, who retired 31 March after 25 years with the firm.

Simon will lead one of Appleby’s largest and most established offices, overseeing teams across corporate, finance, funds, dispute resolution and private client work for a global client base. Consistently ranked as a top‑tier lawyer across major legal directories, he is recognised as one of the leading finance and corporate practitioners in the Cayman Islands. His appointment reflects Appleby’s continued investment in leadership that supports long‑term strategic growth and reinforces the firm’s reputation for market‑leading expertise.

Malcolm Moller, Group Managing Partner, comments:

“Norman Klein hands over leadership of the Cayman office having been instrumental in shaping it into one of Appleby’s flagship jurisdictions and a benchmark for excellence in the market during his tenure. Building on those strong foundations, Simon’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for our Cayman office. He is highly respected across the market and has played a central role in strengthening our corporate and transactional offering. His grounded, collaborative and forward‑thinking approach will ensure Appleby continues to evolve while remaining true to the values that have shaped our success for decades.”

Excited to begin this new chapter, Simon Raftopoulos added:

“It is a privilege to lead the Cayman office at a time of continued growth and opportunity. We will build on our strong track record to deliver even greater value, at pace, for clients in Cayman and internationally.”

As part of this transition, Partner Benjamin Woolf will become Head of Appleby’s Tier 1 Corporate Practice. Ben brings extensive experience across the structured finance sector and is widely regarded as one of the strongest practitioners in the industry. His appointment strengthens leadership depth and ensures continuity within one of Appleby’s most active and strategically important practice areas.

Partner Promotions

Appleby is also pleased to announce the promotion of Susan Fallan (Dispute Resolution) and Alexandra Low (Corporate) to Partner in its Cayman Islands office.

These promotions recognise Susan and Alexandra’s exceptional contributions to the firm, their technical excellence, and their continued commitment to delivering outstanding client service. Both appointments further strengthen Appleby’s leadership bench in Cayman and reflect the firm’s ongoing investment in developing and recognising talent across key practice areas.

Appleby extends its sincere appreciation to Norman Klein for his decades of service, leadership and mentorship, and wishes him every success in his retirement.
