Bio

Dean Bennett is a partner in Appleby’s Corporate Group in the Cayman Islands.

Recognised as a key practitioner in each of his practice areas, Dean has a diverse corporate practice encompassing mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, joint ventures, insurance and reinsurance, and general corporate advisory. His M&A practice includes take privates, de-SPAC transactions, and regulated M&A involving the acquisition and disposal of Cayman licensed insurers and financial groups. Dean authors the Legal 500 M&A Country Comparative Guide (Cayman Islands Chapter), Mondaq M&A Comparative Guide (Cayman Islands Chapter) and Chambers Investing In the Cayman Islands.

Dean is experienced with ISDA and other industry standard trading and collateral documentation and regularly advises both the sell and buy-side on derivatives and securities lending transactions, netting, collateral and insolvency issues.

Dean is also a member of Appleby’s technology and innovation group, supporting clients working on blockchain, AI, fintech and other emerging technologies with a particular focus advising Bitcoin miners on the offshore structuring of their operations.

Prior to joining Appleby, Dean worked in the Structured Capital Markets team at Baker & McKenzie LLP in London, specialising in the areas of capital markets, derivatives, financial regulation and structured finance. Dean also spent six months in Baker & McKenzie’s Moscow office working on a wide range of corporate and finance transactions across the CIS region.

Dean is admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands and as a solicitor in England and Wales (not practising).
