Appleby is pleased to announce that Guy Cabral was called to the Bermuda Bar on 9 October 2026 before Hon. Chief Justice Larry Mussenden.

Guy holds a Master of Science in Taxation Law from the University of Oxford, for which he received the Field Court Tax Chambers Prize for the best overall performance in his cohort. He further holds a Master of Laws in International Commercial Law from University College London and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford.
Prior to joining Appleby, Guy worked as a Research Assistant at the Law Commission of England and Wales and a freelance academic. He also interned with Appleby during 2016-17 prior to starting at university. In his spare time, he writes on constitutional law and the law in relation to cryptocurrencies.
Guy began his pupillage with Appleby in September 2025. In his first year of the programme, he completed three seats, rotating through the Insurance, Corporate and Dispute Resolution departments. He recently began his second year of Appleby’s legal trainee programme which is a 12-month seat in the Dispute Resolution department under the continued mentorship of John Wasty, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution.
Commenting on his call to the Bar, Guy said: “Having grown up with a close family connection to Appleby, to be called to the Bar of Bermuda with the support of my new friends and colleagues here feels in many ways like the closing of a poetic circle. What began as a youthful ambition has become a reality through the guidance, encouragement and generosity of those around me.
This past year of training at Appleby has been an honour and a privilege, and I have been fortunate to learn from lawyers of exceptional ability and character. I offer them my sincere thanks for the time and effort they devoted to my development. As I begin my career at the Bar, I look forward to returning that investment through dedicated service to my colleagues, my clients and the people of Bermuda as a faithful advocate and adviser.
I owe so much to my mentors at Appleby. My time with Ms. Phary and Mr. Adderley gave me the opportunity to improve my drafting skills and develop my commercial awareness. Ms. Vaswani, gave me particularly helpful insights into corporate life and helped me get to grips with handling complex evidence. Lastly, I am grateful to Mr. Wasty not only for getting me involved in so many interesting matters but also for encouraging me to return to Bermuda. His belief in me played a very significant role in my decision to pursue this course in the first place.”
John Wasty, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution, commented: ”I am delighted to welcome Guy to the Bermuda Bar as part of Appleby’s busy and expanding dispute resolution team. He has a first-class mind, an innate ability to identify the crux of the issue, and brings a broad and deep intelligence to identifying and implementing solutions. In the year he has been with us he has shown himself to be a committed and thoughtful professional and I have no doubt he will be a credit to the Bar, his clients and colleagues and to the community generally. Guy is a great colleague and he has a strong future ahead of him in the Appleby team.”
Lalita Vaswani, Partner, said, “It has been a genuine pleasure to work with Guy over the past two years and to watch him grow in confidence and ability throughout his training. He is thoughtful, conscientious and brings a quiet determination to his work, together with an openness to learning that I have always valued. It has been particularly rewarding to see him develop his own judgment and voice as a young lawyer. His call to the Bermuda Bar is a particularly meaningful moment, and I am delighted to have played a part in his journey. I have every confidence that Guy will make a lasting contribution to the Bermuda Bar, and I can’t wait to see the path he forges for himself.”
Sangheetaa Phary, Counsel, shared, “It has been a genuine pleasure to mentor Guy. He has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism, and enthusiasm for learning. Guy’s work has been of a consistently high standard, making a very positive impression during his time with us. I have every confidence that he will have a successful and rewarding career at the Bar. I look forward to seeing all that Guy goes on to accomplish and wish him every success as he begins this next chapter of his legal career.”
