Appleby is delighted to welcome Bermudian Kilian Elkinson, as a Senior Associate in its Dispute Resolution department, whose reputation for excellence continues to attract outstanding legal talent from Bermuda and beyond.

Kilian specialises in complex commercial litigation and international arbitration, with particular experience in shareholder disputes, contractual claims, civil fraud, trust disputes, regulatory proceedings and contentious insolvency. He regularly acts in multi-jurisdictional matters for both claimants and defendants. Prior to joining Appleby, Kilian practised in the London office of Quinn Emanuel, where he acted in major commercial litigation matters before the English courts, including a fraud claim amongst the longest and largest ever heard in the English Commercial Court, a multi-billion-dollar shareholder dispute including two expedited High Court trials and a Court of appeal victory, and a significant aircraft leasing dispute. He also practised at Baker McKenzie in Sydney, where he acted in what is understood to be the largest insolvent trading case to proceed to trial in Australia, and served as Marshal to the then Chief Justice of Bermuda, Narinder Hargun.

John Wasty, Head of Appleby’s Dispute Resolution practice in Bermuda, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Kilian to Appleby. His impressive track record advising on significant, multi-jurisdictional disputes complements the strength and breadth of our leading dispute resolution team. His arrival reinforces our commitment to providing exceptional legal counsel and seamless client service across increasingly complex and sophisticated matters.”

Kilian shared, “Bermuda is home, and returning to practice here has always been somewhere in the back of my mind – this was the right moment. For a jurisdiction of its size, Bermuda sees a considerable volume of substantial international disputes, and Appleby has an excellent dispute resolution team at the center of that work. I’m delighted to be joining them.”

Kilian is admitted as a Barrister and Attorney of the Supreme Court of Bermuda (2023), a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand (2021), and a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia (2021) and the Supreme Court of New South Wales (2020). He holds a Juris Doctor from University of Sydney Law School and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from University of Toronto.
