Leading offshore law firm Appleby is delighted to welcome Michael Thom (Senior Associate) and Charles Hambling (Associate) to its Bermuda office, joining the firm’s Property and Corporate practices, respectively.

Michael specialises in high-value commercial and residential real estate transactions, with extensive experience advising clients on acquisitions, disposals, funding, development, regeneration projects, and portfolio management for both landlords and tenants. Prior to joining Appleby, he worked at the London office of a prominent international law firm, and previously, spent seven years at a leading independent practice, highly regarded for its real estate work. Michael is an admitted Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales (currently non-practising). He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Birmingham and postgraduate qualifications from BPP Law School and the University of Cambridge.
Charles specialises in major sponsor-side work across the funds, fund financing, and corporate spectrum, with experience acting sponsor and lender-side on complex, innovative, and multi-jurisdictional financing transactions across all asset classes for both closed and open-end fund vehicles. He also has experience assisting with implementing more bespoke fund liquidity solutions. Prior to joining Appleby, Charles worked at major London and US firms, including Clifford Chance and Kirkland & Ellis, where his practice predominantly focused on fund finance. Charles was admitted as a solicitor in the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 2022. He completed his LPC and GDL at BPP University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Classics and History from Trinity College (University of Cambridge) and a Postgraduate degree in Ancient History from University College London.
Brad Adderley, Bermuda Managing Partner, commented, “We are delighted to welcome Michael and Charles to Appleby. They bring valuable international experience and fresh perspectives that will further strengthen our team and support our continued growth. We look forward to the contributions they will make to our clients, colleagues and the firm.”
Michael said, “I am delighted to be joining the Bermuda office of Appleby. The firm’s market-leading reputation, commitment to client service and highly-regarded attorneys have earned it a position at the forefront of the market, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success.”
Charles said, “I am delighted to be joining Appleby in Bermuda at a particularly interesting point in the jurisdiction’s evolution as an international financial centre. Bermuda sits at an increasingly important intersection of sophisticated fund structures, cross-border financing and complex corporate transactions, and Appleby’s market-leading practice offers an exceptional platform from which to advise on that work. Having spent my career to-date focused on fund finance, I am looking forward to bringing that experience to an offshore context, whilst also broadening my practice across the wider corporate landscape.”
