Bio

Karim Creary is an Associate in the Corporate team of Appleby’s Bermuda office.

Karim joined Appleby in 2017 as an intern in the Corporate department. In 2019, he was awarded the Appleby Legal Education Scholarship which lead to him rejoining as a trainee. He now works in the Corporate department on the Technology & Innovation team advising on a range of matters including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with successful Digital Asset Business Act license applications, and corresponding legal advice;
    • Eg. preparing checklists outlining BMA requirements pursuant to the guidance issued by the BMA
  • Drafting policy documents for BMA license applicants which align with the Bermuda regulatory regime for Digital Asset Businesses;
  • Assisting with the Intellectual property practice (new trade mark applications, trade mark renewal applications, registration of approved marks);
  • Assisting with company Anti Money-Laundering policy gap analyses to ensure adherence to statutory regulation;
  • Liaising with the Bermuda Regulatory Authority for discussions on regulated client activity;
  • Attending local and international conferences focused on the digital asset industry to advertise our office and jurisdiction to industry leaders

Karim also assists on providing legal advice regarding:

  • Privacy law matters
  • Debt financing
  • Investment Business license applications
  • S129A license applications

Qualifications & Education

Karim earned a Graduate Diploma of Law in 2020 and most recently earned his Legal Practice Certificate as well as his MSc in Law, Business and Management specialising in the effect of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations’ effects on corporate governance from the University of Law, Bristol in 2021.
