Appleby is delighted to announce that Phillip Cronje, Senior Associate in the law firm’s Dispute Resolution team, has been formally called to the Manx Bar. Phillip was sworn in as an Isle of Man Advocate by the Island’s First Deemster, His Honour Deemster Corlett, at a formal ceremony on Tuesday 7 January 2026.

Phillip joined Appleby’s market-leading Dispute Resolution team in 2023 after relocating to the Isle of Man from South Africa, where he qualified as an attorney. He began his legal career at an international law firm in Johannesburg, before moving to a leading South African firm, where he specialised in commercial litigation.

Phillip has extensive experience across a wide range of disputes, including commercial, construction, trust, property and insurance matters. In the latest edition of the Legal 500 UK 2026, client testimonials described Phillip as a “superb litigator, showing excellent tactical skills way beyond his year of qualification.”

Phillip commented: “I am very pleased to have been commissioned as a Manx Advocate and look forward to continuing to work with and assist our excellent Dispute Resolution team and clients in my role as an Advocate “.

Mark Holligon, Managing Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution team at Appleby Isle of Man, said “Phillip’s admission to the Manx Bar is a fantastic achievement. He’s already made a real difference within the Dispute Resolution team, and we’re excited to see him continue to succeed as an Isle of Man Advocate.”
