Appleby Bermuda Awards $90,000 in Scholarships and Bursaries

Appleby has been providing scholarships and bursaries since 1977 to qualified Bermudian applicants based on academic performance, community involvement and extracurricular activities. This year’s recipients are Jacob Matthews, Sioma Rudo, Tejah Bean, Yahzahra Gilbert and Sage Jackson.

APPLEBY LEGAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP:

The Appleby Legal Education Scholarship is an annual scholarship (with the possibility for renewal for a second year) for a Bermudian student studying law who plans to return to Bermuda to practice. This year’s Legal Education Scholarship (valued at $30,000) is awarded to Jacob Matthews.

• Jacob is pursuing a Graduate Entry LLB at University of London.

APPLEBY/BERKELEY INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP:

The Appleby/Berkeley Institute Scholarship is an annual scholarship (with the possibility for renewal for a second year) for current graduating students of The Berkeley Institute. This year’s Appleby/Berkeley Institute Scholarship (valued at $20,000) is awarded to Sioma Rudo.

• Sioma will be pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at St. Mary’s University.

APPLEBY LEGAL EDUCATION BURSARIES:

Appleby’s Legal Education Bursaries are annual bursaries for Bermudian students studying at university who have the intention to return to Bermuda. This year’s Education Bursaries (valued at $40,000 total) are awarded to Tejah Bean, Yahzahra Gilbert and Sage Jackson.

• Tejah is pursuing an LLM in Security and International Law at University of Manchester;
• Yahzahra is pursuing an LLB at University of Buckingham. Yahzahra is also a 2025 Legal Education Bursary recipient;
• Sage is pursuing a Juris Doctor at Lincoln Alexander School of Law.

Our scholarship and bursary recipients also have the opportunity to apply for summer and winter internships to gain valuable work experience. Legal Education Bursary recipient, Yahzahra Gilbert, interned with the firm last winter.
