The two-year trainee programme involves being called to the Bermuda Bar and completing four, six-month seats in the various practice groups including the Corporate, Dispute Resolution and Private Client & Trusts departments in Bermuda.

The goal of the programme is to provide trainees with a thorough legal foundation and expose them to a variety of practice areas, helping them identify the areas they may wish to specialise in the future. Each trainee is assigned a senior attorney, often a partner, as a mentor in every seat throughout the two years.

In their new roles in the corporate practice group, they will have the opportunity to gain valuable sector experience in Insurance & Reinsurance, Banking & Financial Services, Technology & Innovation, Energy & Natural Resources, Funds & Investment Services, and Transport & Logistics.

Amanda Burns said, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to complete my training contract at Appleby. Appleby really is made up of the people who people want to work with. I look forward to embarking on another exciting chapter of my legal career as an Associate in the corporate department.”

Laura Burns commented, ”I have worked incredibly hard over the last two years and in that time I have felt myself develop as a young professional and I owe my confidence in my abilities to my mentors for pushing me each day to take on new and challenging tasks. I am particularly excited to work closely with Appleby’s insurance team going forward in my role as an Associate.”

Alexis Haynes added, “My time in Appleby’s training programme was an incredible experience. I was fortunate to have trained under several ‘Class A’ attorneys who took a vested interest in pushing me beyond my limits. If I had to sum up Appleby’s training programme, I would describe it as a programme that fosters extensive skills development, offering exposure to a vast number of industry sectors.”

Bermuda Managing Partner Tim Faries said, “Our trainee programme has proven to be highly successful over the years with attorneys going on to practice in all areas of the firm, in a variety of different specialisms. We currently have within our firm a dozen attorneys that went through the programme, including three of our partners who are dedicated to not only serving their portfolio of clients, but to also mentoring the next generation of attorneys. Congratulations to Amanda, Laura and Alexis on this important milestone in their legal careers.”
