Appleby is also pleased to acknowledge our Legal Education Bursary recipients, who will receive a summer internship opportunity. For the last 40 years, the Partners of Appleby have provided awards and bursaries to qualified Bermudian applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence within the legal field, community outreach and extracurricular activities.
Legal Education Award
Ashley Bento – Graduate from University of Greenwich, law student at Appleby June 2018, starting her LPC at BPP University in September
Monica Kelly – Graduate from University of Kent, law student at Appleby since June 2016, intern at Appleby since October 2017, starting her LPC at The University of Law in October
Ashley said, “I am extremely grateful to Appleby for choosing me as one of their recipients for the Legal Education Award this year as it assists me in taking my next step to becoming a lawyer. I worked with Appleby’s corporate team this summer and I enjoyed being able to work alongside them as they encouraged and challenged me consistently with the tasks I was given.”
Monica commented, “I am honoured and grateful to receive Appleby’s Legal Education Award. I have been privileged to work with Appleby as a Law Student and as a Legal Intern, and I look forward to starting my legal career as a pupil with Appleby in the near future.”
Legal Education Bursary
Kaisha Wilson – Currently studying at De Montfort University, going into her third and final year
Matthew Smith – Graduated from Queen Mary, University of London in 2017 with an MSci in Chemistry and will be attending City, University of London to read for a Graduate Diploma in Law with the intent to sit the LPC
Robyn Meredith – Currently studying at University of Bristol, going into her third and final year
Zantae Dill – Currently studying at University of the West of England, going into her third and final year
Nevine Lewis, chair of The Appleby Mentoring Committee, said: “This year’s contingents possess all the qualities and characteristics we look for in students or graduates during their pursuit in legal studies. Appleby is committed to developing Bermudian students and see that they have the tools necessary to reach their full potential within the legal profession. I have had the pleasure of seeing students go on to become associates and partners which is the objective of our program. I wish this year’s recipients the best of luck during their studies this year.”
