Janaki is a senior associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group at Appleby in the Cayman Islands. She has experience advising clients on a diverse range of cross-border commercial disputes as well as on judicial review proceedings. She regularly acts for funds, investment firms and banks.
Prior to joining Appleby in February 2020, Janaki was a senior associate in the Allens Linklaters Disputes and Investigations practice in Sydney where she was seconded to the Regulatory Investigations and Litigation team at Westpac Banking Corporation. Prior to this, Janaki held roles as an associate with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP and Herbert Smith Freehills in London where she specialised in banking, financial services and funds disputes. During her time in London, Janaki undertook a secondment to the Conduct Risk team at Morgan Stanley International.
Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Janaki was the Clerk to the Hon Justice Pullin JA in the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. She was the recipient of a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship to read for the LL.M at the University of Cambridge following which she was awarded a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Pegasus Scholarship with Inner Temple in London in 2011.

- Acting for Goldman Sachs International in its UK Supreme Court appeal concerning multiparty, cross-jurisdictional proceedings arising out of the transfer of assets and liabilities of a collapsed Portuguese Bank, Banco Espírito Santo (Goldman Sachs International v Novo Banco SA  UKSC 34)*
- Acting for Goldman Sachs in its defence to a USD 1.2 billion claim brought by the Libyan Investment Authority in relation to a series of equity derivatives transactions, including claims of undue influence and unconscionable bargain (The Libyan Investment Authority v Goldman Sachs International  EWHC 2530 (Ch)).*
- Acting for Hemen Holding Ltd in response to creditor claims arising out of US Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Proceedings in the Southern District Court of Texas.*
- Acting for a European investment bank in connection with a European Commission investigation into potential antitrust regulatory breaches concerning syndicated loan practices.*
