The conference is geared to presidents of European risk management associations, representatives of insurance companies and chief executives from the financial world. APOGERIS has teamed up with ALARYS to host the conference.

Mr. Faries, Bermuda Managing Partner and head of the firm’s Latin America global team, will be speaking on the ’Captives: domicile, jurisdictions and regulatory environment’ panel. This is especially fitting as Bermuda and Appleby had the privilege of forming and incorporating the first captives for Portugal and Spain prior to the successful financial and regulatory implementation of Solvency II. Mr. Fox, a member of the firm’s Latin America team and ALARYS board member, will be moderating the ‘Compliance & Business Continuity Management’ panel.

The ALARYS Congress connects risk professionals and thought leaders from numerous countries throughout Latin America, with a full agenda of roundtables, panel discussions and education sessions. This is the first time that ALARYS has chosen to hold its annual conference in Europe.

Appleby is the only Bermuda organisation that has been present at every ALARYS Congress since its inception in 1994, and was a catalyst for the conference taking place in Bermuda three times, the only non-Latin jurisdiction to do so.

Mr. Faries is Bermuda Managing Partner, head of the corporate practice in Bermuda and global sector leader of Insurance & Reinsurance at Appleby. Mr. Faries leads a team of lawyers who specialise in all manner of non-contentious corporate insurance work, including life and general insurance and reinsurance, mutual insurance and structured risk financing. He has extensive experience of public and private insurance company capital raising and M&A activity, the establishment and licencing of alternative risk financing vehicles such as cat bonds, ILWs and other insurance-linked securities and captive insurance companies in established and emerging markets.

Mr. Fox is a member of Appleby’s Latin America global team and a consultant in the firm’s Corporate and Private Client & Trusts departments in Bermuda. He focuses on business development in major Latin American economies and serves as the Official Advisor for Latin American Affairs to both the Government of Bermuda and the Bermuda Insurance Managers Association.
