Helen Fretwell is a senior associate within the Corporate department at Appleby, having joined the firm in 2008.

Helen has extensive experience in a broad range of corporate disciplines, including banking and asset finance, acquisitions, insurance and investment services.

She routinely advises financial institutions, insurers, corporate service providers, onshore law firms and borrowers in both local and multi-jurisdictional transactions. Helen´s experience also includes a secondment to an Isle of Man fund administrator.

She received a First Class law degree from Leeds University, where she was awarded the “Hughes Scholar Award” for an “Outstanding Graduate”. Helen also received the “Ella Olesen Scholarship” from the Isle of Man Government, whereupon she studied at the University of Idaho.

Helen is a member of the Isle of Man Law Society and an advocate of the Manx Bar.

Some recent examples of Helen´s representative work include acting as Isle of Man counsel to:

    • Lloyds Bank plc in connection with the sale of CMI Fund Managers (IOM) Limited to Capital International Group Limited.
    • Zurich International Life Limited in relation to the sale of a closed book of insurance business to LCL International Life Assurance Company Limited.
    • A syndicate of institutional lenders in connection with loan facilities of £135 million secured against a large portfolio of Isle of Man incorporated SPVs holding UK properties.
    • Various financial institutions in connection with providing advice where regulated activities are carried on by way of business in or from the Isle of Man.
