Appleby is pleased to have acted as Bermuda counsel to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) in connection with its acquisition of a 50% interest in Avenir LNG Limited from Stolt-Nielsen Gas Ltd., a subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen Limited. The transaction brings together NYK and Stolt-Nielsen Gas as equal shareholders in Avenir LNG, creating a strategic joint venture focused on the ownership and operation of the company.

The investment marks a significant expansion of NYK’s presence in the LNG infrastructure and bunkering sector. Avenir LNG Limited has established itself as a leading participant in the small-scale LNG market, with a fleet of LNG bunker and supply vessels serving customers across international markets.
Appleby worked alongside lead counsel Watson Farley & Williams, providing Bermuda law advice in relation to the acquisition.
Jerome Wilson, Partner at Appleby, commented: “We are delighted to have supported NYK on this important strategic investment. The transaction demonstrates the continued role of Bermuda vehicles in sophisticated cross-border acquisitions in the maritime and energy sectors. We were pleased to work alongside Watson Farley & Williams to help bring this significant transaction to a successful completion.”
The Appleby team was led by Jerome Wilson, Partner, and included George McCallum, Senior Associate, and Rawan Hussein, Associate.
