Following the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria on the British Virgin Islands, we are continuing with our efforts to support our colleagues, the BVI government and the BVI business community.
Whilst many of our colleagues were able to leave the island following Irma, we still have some members of our team who have decided to remain on the island, and we are pleased to report that all of our BVI colleagues are safe and well in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
Our BVI team is operational and business continuity measures are in place for BVI clients. Our BVI team of lawyers are operating out of Appleby’s global network of offices. All client enquiries and communications will now be handled via your usual BVI contacts. Contact details for the Appleby BVI team are set out below
We will continue to work alongside the BVI Government to establish and support the humanitarian relief effort required to support the people of the BVI at this time. Appleby has joined the Alliance of BVI Professional Services Businesses, representing the legal and professional services firms with operations in the BVI. As an alliance we have agreed to support the BVI Government’s charitable efforts and donate towards the central fund.

Appleby is one of the leading law firms in the British Virgin Islands. Appleby has 32 BVI lawyers, with eight resident in the BVI. Appleby’s BVI law office provides both corporate and litigation services, and continues to grow to meet the considerable interest from North America, Latin America, Africa and Europe.
The establishment of the BVI Business Companies Act was instrumental in the Territory’s success in being able to attract significant numbers of mutual fund, captive insurance and trust companies to its shores. The BVI remains committed to the OECD principles of exchange of information and transparency in tax matters, as demonstrated by the Territory’s listing on the OECD “White List”.
Lawyers in our BVI office advise clients in relation to BVI law and are able to facilitate the provision of legal advice in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
In the British Virgin Islands Appleby supports local charities through donations and sponsorship. We encourage our employees to share their time and expertise as volunteers to support the local community.
Our community investment programme benefits charities and our business by helping us to build good relationships in the local community and by contributing to employee development and job satisfaction. Our focus is to help in the areas of: youth development, environment, sport and the arts.
