Appleby Platinum Sponsor of the 2nd Annual Guernsey Economic Crime & Compliance Symposium

Published: 6 Oct 2026

The Symposium – which is organised by the School of International Financial Services – focuses on evolving economic crime risks, heightened regulatory scrutiny, person accountability, sanctions, fraud, and emerging technologies within the sector.

Guernsey Partner Simon Florance will be speaking at the event, with Group Managing Partner* Richard Sheldon and Partner Jon Barclay joining panels throughout the day.

Simon’s talk, “Operational Resilience and Financial Crime – When Systems Fail”, will examine how system failures can expose organisations to heightened risk, alongside the practical steps firms can take to strengthen their resilience.

Richard will be joining the panel discussion “Are Compliance Frameworks Delivering Real Protection?”, while Jon will be a panellist for the discussion “The Future of Economic Crime Risk in Guernsey”. Both topics promise to generate valuable discussion around the effectiveness of current approaches and the evolving risks facing Guernsey’s professional services industry.

Simon said: “Guernsey’s reputation as a leading international finance centre depends not only on the strength of its legal and regulatory framework, but on the ability of its professional community to respond effectively as the landscape changes. Events like this are an important opportunity to share experience across the industry. I’m delighted that Appleby is supporting the Symposium this year and look forward to contributing to the discussions.”

Richard, Simon and Jon will be available throughout the day to answer any questions and discuss Appleby’s expertise and service offering in this area. They will also be attending the drinks reception following the Symposium and look forward to connecting with colleagues from across the industry.
