The programme provides trainees with a thorough legal foundation and introduces them to a variety of practice areas and sectors, which helps them identify areas they wish to specialise in the future. Each trainee is assigned a senior attorney, often a partner, as a mentor in every seat throughout the two-year programme.

Karim Creary who received the Appleby Legal Education Scholarship in 2019, also worked with the firm in 2017 and 2019, first with the Compliance department and then as a summer legal intern in the Corporate department. Upon completion, he received his Graduate Diploma of Law from the University of Law, Bristol. Karim most recently completed his LPC as well his MSc Law, Business and Management.

Karim said, “I was an intern with Appleby for two years and was welcomed by every level of the firm and felt comfortable to grow as an individual and a dreamer. Appleby supported my charitable efforts as well, and has provided invaluable career guidance during my GDL, LPC and MSc. I chose Appleby because of the support I have received throughout my entire journey into the legal profession. Now having completed my legal studies, I hope to learn how to materially contribute and payback the continued support I have received from Appleby in offering me this pupillage.”

Kiara Wilkinson obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law and has successfully completed the Bar Professional Training Course whilst also obtaining a Master of Laws from BPP University, London. Kiara said, “I chose Appleby as my trainee firm as they are one of the leading law firms in Bermuda with a strong local and international presence. I know that I will receive quality training with the firm, as Appleby have exceptional lawyers who are willing to provide me an excellent foundation for my career in law. Appleby’s very well-established trainee programme attracted me to the law firm.”

Bermuda Managing Partner Tim Faries said, “We welcome Karim and Kiara to our trainee programme which has provided an excellent foundation for many lawyers in Bermuda, over many decades, including many of our current partners. I know the mentorship they will receive will be first-class and I wish them tremendous success and fulfilment in their careers in law.”
