Appleby Cayman Sponsors Sea Turtle Tracker KY to Support Marine Conservation Research
Appleby is proud to sponsor Sea Turtle Tracker KY, the Department of Environment’s (DOE) new sea turtle tracking initiative, continuing the firm’s longstanding support of the DOE’s sea turtle conservation and research efforts. As part of the programme, Appleby staff voted to name one of the project’s sea turtles Aristurtle, and the firm has already committed to sponsoring another turtle.
Launched by the Department of Environment in 2026, Sea Turtle Tracker KY combines acoustic and satellite telemetry to better understand sea turtle movements in Cayman waters and across the wider Caribbean. Acoustic tracking is supported by the Darwin Initiative, while satellite transmitter deployments are funded through sponsorships from local businesses and community partners. By tracking migration patterns, habitat use and behaviour, the project will generate valuable scientific data to support ongoing conservation efforts and help inform future environmental management initiatives.
