David Bulley is a member of the Corporate department. His practice focuses on complex restructurings, distressed M&A and acquisition finance for large corporate clients. He has been involved in many of the largest restructuring transactions in both the Cayman Islands and London and has a particular focus and knowledge on restructuring by way of Scheme of Arrangement.
IFLR 2017 has ranked David as a rising star in the restructuring and insolvency space, as well as recognising him as the only ranked lawyer in this space in the Cayman Islands.
Since joining Appleby in August 2015, David has acted on both debtor and creditor representations including acting for CHC Group Ltd. on their financial restructuring, the Ad Hoc Group of Creditors of Ocean Rig UDW. on the financial restructuring of Ocean Rig and the Ad Hoc Group of Creditors of Hercules Offshore Inc. on the first financial restructuring of the Hercules Group. In addition David regularly represents The Nordic Trustee ASA in connection with Norwegian bond restructurings. David also represents corporate clients including SoftBank Group Corp. on their Cayman matters.
Prior to joining Appleby, David spent five years in London as an associate at Kirkland & Ellis and Sullivan & Cromwell during which time acted on some of the largest restructurings by way of UK scheme of arrangement including advising the ad hoc committee of Towergate Insurance Group senior secured creditors in connection with Towergate´s successful restructuring.
David’s clients have included: Bain Capital, BAML, Carlyle, Elliott, Goldman Sachs, Hellman & Friedman, Morgan Stanley, Sankaty, SoftBank Group Corp., Sun Capital, and ZF Friedrichshafen.
David is a graduate of the University of Cambridge. He trained at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before practicing in London as an associate for five years at Kirkland & Ellis International LLP and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. He is a member of The American Bankruptcy Institute and INSOL.
