Peter Colegate is a Senior Associate within the Corporate practice group where his practice is focused on privacy, data protection, intellectual property and strategic corporate-commercial and regulatory work in the technology and financial technology (FinTech) sectors. Peter is also a member of Appleby’s Global Technology and Innovation Group.
Prior to joining Appleby in January 2017, Peter was a member of Hogan Lovells’ technology, media and telecommunications group in Hong Kong. Working with some of the world's largest technology companies and global banks, he advised on privacy, data protection, bank secrecy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, broadcasting and telecoms matters across the Asia-Pacific region. While in Hong Kong, Peter also worked in-house with Turner Broadcasting (a subsidiary of Time Warner) where his internal “clients” included the 24 hour news channel CNN.
A privacy and data protection specialist, Peter is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He helped build Hogan Lovells’ privacy practice in Hong Kong, recognising that regulatory issues are often the threshold question for new business models, products and services.
Peter is admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands, as a solicitor in England and Wales and was a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.
Peter is a member of the Cayman Islands Law Society and the Fintech Professionals Association. Peter also sits on the Cayman Islands Government’s Data Protection Working Group and is a member of the Cayman Finance Fintech Innovation Lab.
