Bio
James Mossetto is a Senior Associate within the Corporate department and Funds and Investment Services team in the Cayman Islands, specialising in alternative investment funds and investment management matters.
James represents hedge funds, private equity funds, family offices and investors. His principal focus is on fund formation and ongoing operations. James also advises on co-investments and primary and secondary fund investments and has experience with digital assets and fund regulatory matters. Additionally, James has worked on fund M&A transactions and supported on disputes in the investment management context.
As well as the Cayman Islands, James has advised on funds and transactions structured in the US, the UK, the Channel Islands, Luxembourg and Ireland, and other offshore and emerging market jurisdictions.
Prior to joining Appleby, James was a senior associate in the London office of a US law firm, and was previously an associate in the funds teams of a Magic Circle law firm and an alternative assets consultancy in London. He has also completed a secondment in Jersey and worked for a leading law firm in Australia.

James was admitted as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales in 2016 (now non-practising) and practiced law in London prior to becoming an Attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2025*.
