Damon Booth is a Counsel in Appleby’s Hong Kong office and a member of the Dispute Resolution department. Prior to his relocation to Hong Kong, he was based in our Cayman Islands office.
He has broad experience in cross-border insolvency and enforcement, shareholder disputes and investment fund disputes, including acting for multi-national corporations, financial institutions and high net worth individuals.
Damon has expertise guiding clients through all aspects of a dispute, from preliminary instructions and investigations through to trial and enforcement.
Damon joined Appleby from Gilbert + Tobin, a Tier 1 Australian firm, where he spent two years as a Senior Lawyer in their Disputes and Investigations team in Sydney and gained a wide range of litigation, restructuring and insolvency experience. Prior to that, Damon spent several years as a Lawyer and Senior Associate at Dentons in their Litigation and Dispute Resolution team in Sydney.

- Acting for an investor in three Cayman Islands investment funds in proceedings seeking winding up of the funds on the just and equitable basis, including investigating and prosecuting allegations of serious mismanagement by the managers of the funds.
- Acting for a substantial shareholder in a Cayman Islands incorporated company with significant operations in the cement and construction industry in the PRC in proceedings seeking winding up of the company on the just and equitable basis, including defending allegations of conspiracy to dilute another substantial shareholder.
- Acting for dissenting shareholders in an appraisal action following a cash-out merger of a major PRC healthcare group.
- Acting for the majority shareholders of a multi-national property development business in proceedings commenced by a minority shareholder seeking winding up of the company on a just and equitable basis.*
- Defending a listed mining company in ongoing proceedings commenced by liquidators of two subsidiaries alleging insolvent trading and various breaches of directors’ duties.*
- Acting for the majority shareholder and directors of a carbon farming company in proceedings commenced by minority shareholders seeking, inter alia, derivative relief.*
- Successfully prosecuting a shareholder oppression claim on behalf of a 50-50 shareholder in a private defence consultancy business.*

Qualifications & Education
Damon was admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2022. Damon is also admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of New South Wales (2014) and as a solicitor of the High Court of Australia (2016).
