George Mallis is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution department of Appleby’s Hong Kong office.
George has a broad range of litigation and arbitration experience and advises clients in relation to corporate disputes, directors’ duties matters, insolvency matters, minority shareholder claims, and matters arising from M&A transactions. This experience includes representing clients in urgent proceedings for injunctive relief, Norwich Pharmacal orders, and other forms of ancillary relief. George regularly acts for banks, investment funds, insolvency practitioners, listed companies, and UHNW individuals.
Prior to joining Appleby, George worked with Clifford Chance as a disputes lawyer, for UBS advising the bank’s asset management, investment banking, and private wealth divisions on contentious matters, and for Sidley Austin as a disputes lawyer within the firm’s investment funds group.

George’s recent cases include:
- Acting for a private equity firm in relation to its acquisition and privatization of a PRC-headquartered NYSE-listed company, including in proceedings brought by a rival bidder attempting to block the acquisition and in proceedings related to the valuation of the target company.
- Acting in ongoing proceedings in the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands (as well as assisting his Hong Kong counsel in relation to proceedings in the High Court of Hong Kong) for the founder of a HKEX-listed company in relation to an urgent application concerning his purported removal as a director of the majority owner of the listed company, an application for the appointment of provisional liquidators, and the winding up of the listed company.
- Acting in ongoing proceedings for the founder of a neuroscience company concerning attempts to remove the founder from the company’s board of directors, including successfully obtaining urgent injunctive relief preventing his removal in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and in emergency arbitration proceedings.
- Acting for a Hong Kong family office in a claim against a hedge fund manager relating to the manager’s loss of approximately US$25 million in cryptocurrency.
- Acting for a PRC conglomerate in obtaining Norwich Pharmacal relief as part of an asset tracing investigation.
