Chris Buchan is Counsel* in the Appleby British Virgin Islands (BVI) office Corporate Practice Group having joined on 1 April 2025. Chris was initially based in the Appleby Cayman office before relocating to the BVI office. He advises on public and private M&A, capital markets, finance, investment funds and services, private equity and other corporate matters. He has extensive experience advising on the laws of the Cayman Islands and Bermuda.
Prior to joining Appleby, Chris practiced at offshore law firms in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda and as Partner and Head of the Funds Group and Co-Head of the Private Equity Group of Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong.

- Advising on the application by fund managers for investment business licenses and registration.

- Advising on numerous M &A and debt and equity issues and restructuring transactions.

Qualifications & Education
Bachelor of Laws with Honours (Upper Second Class) and Diploma in Legal Practice from University of Dundee.
