Lorinda has over 30 years’ onshore and offshore experience in cross-border restructuring, insolvency and workouts of distressed companies and financial institutions, advising banks, funds, accountancy firms, leading onshore law firms and regulators. She has extensive experience in dealing with various types of financial instruments and structures, including asset based lending. She also has significant experience in all aspects of offshore schemes of arrangement.

Over her career she has advised creditors in relation to the first global bank collapse of a bank incorporated in the Cayman Islands, acted for the Special Administrator in a Central Bank Intervention in Cyprus and lead the work out of the portfolio of a European bank in wind down. Her practice encompasses both contentious and non-contentious finance-related matters, as well as banking and asset based lending within the distressed corporate climate.

David Bulley, Managing Partner of the Hong Kong Office, commented: “This appointment reflects the continued commitment we have to growing both our market leading corporate restructuring team and the Hong Kong office. This hire also reflects the demand which has been placed on the team and the pipeline of work which is forming, as clients seek specialist offshore restructuring advice. With Lorinda’s extensive experience in restructuring and stellar reputation in the market, I look forward to continuing to distinguish our offering from our competitors and working with the expanded team as we continue to focus on providing a first-class service to our clients.”

Appleby’s Hong Kong corporate restructuring team predominantly practices Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda law and covers the entire Asia Pacific region, with a focus in the current market on restructuring of China real estate debt issuers. The team has been engaged as specialist restructuring counsel on a large number of China real estate transactions, being brought in by the relevant company to displace the incumbent offshore corporate counsel.
