We are delighted to announce that John McCarroll SC, Appleby’s Hong Kong office Dispute Resolution Partner, has been appointed as an arbitrator to the latest panel of the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (SHIAC), effective from 1 May 2026 for a five-year term.

John is one of only 436 foreign arbitrators appointed to the panel, reflecting SHIAC’s continued commitment to strengthening its international reach and expertise.

With over 30 years of experience, John is widely recognised for his work on complex, high-value disputes, including company law, asset recovery, arbitration, insolvency, and financial services. He was called to the Inner Bar in Ireland in 2013 and regularly appears before superior courts.

Based in Hong Kong, John is one of the few Asia-based offshore silks with a strong background in BVI litigation and insolvency, and is the only offshore silk practising in Hong Kong and the PRC.

His appointment further strengthens our dispute resolution offering across Asia and underscores our deep expertise in cross-border litigation and arbitration.
