Bio

Sofia is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group in the Cayman Islands office, with extensive experience in general commercial and insolvency litigation.

She has played a key role in high-profile insolvency matters, including voluntary administration and insolvent liquidation, and has advised on members’ schemes of arrangement. Sofia is well-versed in claims related to voidable transactions, directors’ duties, and the enforcement of security. Before joining Appleby, she was admitted as a solicitor in Australia and gained valuable experience at leading national and international firms.

Work Highlights
  • Acting for the defendant in a decade long dispute regarding alleged underpayment of profit share as between formerly related entities comprising a Foreign Exchange derivates trading house and a referrer of trading clients.*
  • Acting for the target in relation to schemes of arrangement in multi-million dollar transactions in the mining and sports gaming sectors.*
  • Advising large Australian banks in relation to enforcement options and security arrangements with respect to various commercial facilities.*Acting for secured creditors in various insolvency proceedings, including in context of disputes regarding personal property security rights and risk of asset dissipation.*

Qualifications & Education
  • Sofia was admitted to the Cayman Islands Bar as Attorney-at-Law in September 2025.
  • She was previously admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High
    Court of Australia in November 2021.
  • Sofia obtained a Bachelor of Arts (International Politics) in 2016 and Juris Doctor in 2020
    from the University of Melbourne.
  • She completed the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association
    Advanced Insolvency Certification in 2023.
  • She is presently undertaking the INSOL Foundation Certificate in International Insolvency Law.
