Bio

Madison Ma is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution department of Appleby’s Shanghai office.

Madison advises clients on complex commercial disputes, with a particular focus on shareholder disputes, fund disputes, general corporate disputes, and insolvency disputes. He offers comprehensive legal support to both domestic and international clients across various industries.

Madison also has a robust background in white-collar defense and investigation, which equips him with a comprehensive understanding of the government regulatory matters in PRC. He also contributed to the UNODC business integrity handbook for Belt & Road investment projects.

Native in Mandarin and fluent in English, Madison works seamlessly with our wider global team and provide advice on Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda law matters, supporting the clients across Asia in real time.

Prior to joining Appleby, Madison worked in the Shanghai office of a leading PRC firm.

  • Acted for a Japanese director of an investment fund in legal proceedings concerning his embezzlement issues
  • Acted for a US company in the embezzlement claims against the general manager of its Chinese subsidiary
  • Acted for a US company in the shareholder disputes relating to its PRC joint-venture including fraud claims against a director
  • Advised a listed company in connection with regulatory proceedings concerning its violation of disclosure obligations on important information
  • Advised a PRC investment funds in the litigation proceedings by a dissenting minor shareholder, alongside a corresponding regulatory investigation by local authorities.

Qualifications & Education

Madison is admitted as a Solicitor Advocate in England and Wales. He is also a PRC Licensed Attorney (non-practising).
