Ray has almost 9 years of offshore and onshore experience in the Asia market, specialising in commercial disputes. He is a native Cantonese and Mandarin speaker and fluent in English. With his Chinese capability, Ray has extensive experience in handling PRC clients. He is able to work closely with our wider global team and provide advice on Bermuda, BVI and Cayman Islands law matters in the Asia time zone.

Prior to joining Appleby Ray worked in the insolvency & dispute resolution department at another leading offshore law firm. Before practising offshore law, Ray worked in a general practice law firm in Hong Kong, focusing on construction litigation and commercial disputes.

Our Hong Kong Dispute Resolution practice predominantly practices Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda law and covers the entire Asia Pacific region, with a focus in dispute and insolvency issues.

Eliot Simpson, Partner and Group Head of the Dispute Resolution department in Hong Kong, commented, “I am delighted to have Ray joining the team. Following the arrival of Senior Associate Crystal Au-Yeung in May 2021, who is one of the few BVI qualified litigators with Chinese capability, Ray’s strong bilingual capability and experience in advising PRC clients further strengthens our high-quality service to our clients in Asia.”

David Bulley, Managing Partner for Appleby’s Hong Kong office, said: “Further to the recent appointments in the firm, this appointment demonstrates our commitment to growing the Appleby Hong Kong office and I’m pleased to be adding Ray’s expertise to our full service offering which supports our clients throughout all stages of the economic cycle.”
