Kiara, currently in her second year of Appleby’s legal trainee programme, obtained a Bachelors in Criminology (Hons) from Kingston University. She went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP University in London Waterloo and passed the Bar Professional Training Course from BPP University in London Holborn. She was admitted to the Bar of England Wales in July 2021.

Kiara began her Appleby pupillage in October 2021. Her first six-month seat was in the Corporate department as a member of the Banking & Asset Finance team where she was mentored by Tiffany Boys, Partner. During that time, Kiara worked on a range of matters, including but not limited to: registering aircraft with the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority, drafting legal opinions, assisting with closings, liaising with Bermuda regulators, and registering and de-registering various security documents with the Registrar of Companies. Kiara also worked with Partners Jerome Wilson and Tammy Richardson on other miscellaneous matters.

Tiffany Boys said: “It was my distinct pleasure to mentor Kiara and to watch her grow and develop over the last 12 months. Kiara has become a dependable and trusted member of the Appleby team. She is truly thriving in dispute resolution, where she has found her niche. We are delighted that she is allowing us to be a part of her journey and we look forward to watching her continue to flourish and shine. Congratulations Kiara!”

Kiara’s second seat was in the Dispute Resolution department. She was mentored by Hannah Tildesley, Partner and head of the Trusts Disputes team in Bermuda. During this time, Kiara assisted with drafting numerous court applications inclusive of specially endorsed writs of summons, consent orders, orders, affidavits, winding up applications and relevant forms, and exhibits. She also prepared for and attended arbitrations and Supreme Court hearings, attended client meetings, drafted letters to opposing counsel, drafted legal advice to parties, and compiled authority bundles and hearing bundles, discovery, substantive research and court filings. Kiara intends to remain with the Dispute Resolution department and continue her training with the team.

Hannah Tildesley said: “Kiara is a fantastic addition to the Appleby family and to the Dispute Resolution department in particular. She is thoughtful, hard-working and the ultimate team player. She never gives up, no matter how challenging the work, and she is always open to learning and growing as an individual. I am delighted to see her called to the Bar and embarking on the next stage of her legal career. I know she has a very bright future in our profession and that she will be a fantastic addition to the Bermuda litigation ranks.”

Kiara, who recently began her third seat in the Dispute Resolution department, said: “I am humbled to be the newest member of the Bermuda Bar. I am indebted to Appleby who have given me the opportunity to train as a Barrister & Attorney at Law. The support of my mentors Tiffany Boys and Hannah Tildesley, along with other members of the team, has been the wind behind my back to push me across this finish line. I am grateful to have been mentored by some of Bermuda’s greatest legal minds who often challenged me and supported me. Thank you to all involved in my legal journey thus far as you have contributed to putting me on the right path to becoming a capable and competent lawyer. I’ve learned some invaluable lessons along the way. I trust that the example set for me will remain so that I can help others who follow after me.
