“Appleby is honoured to be among an exceptional group recognised for the legal talent and creativity required to complete Giant Interactive’s privatisation,” said Hong Kong partner Judy Lee, who represented Appleby at the China Law & Practice Awards in Beijing on 18 September.
Giant Interactive’s privatisation, by way of a merger in the Cayman Islands, involved Giant Interactive merging with Giant Merger Limited, which acted as the buying vehicle. Giant Merger Limited is controlled by a consortium consisting of Giant Interactive’s chairman Shi Yuzhu, Baring Private Equity and Hony Capital.
Jeffrey Kirk, a banking partner with Appleby who led the firm’s team, said: “This recognition is demonstrative of the technical and legal prowess that enables Appleby to help see through to completion some of the largest and most complex private equity deals in the industry.”
This year marked the eight China Law & Practice Awards, which recognises legal innovation among leading law firms, individuals and rising stars. Appleby was also recognised for its involvement in the New Century REIT IPO, which was a finalist in China Law & Practice’s 2014 Equity Deal of the Year category.
