Personal Law

The Personal Law team is dedicated to the dispute-resolution and related needs of our individual, rather than corporate and institutional, clients. Our lawyers are very experienced in representing both defendants and plaintiffs.

Areas of service include:

  • Family law, including adoption, maintenance, custody and access rights, and other issues related to children
  • Human-rights matters, including the first case taken to the European Court of Human Rights from the Cayman Islands
  • Matrimonial proceedings, including divorce, ancillary relief, pre-nuptials, co-habitation agreements, separations and emergency injunctive relief

We frequently advise high net worth clients in significant matrimonial disputes involving the division of substantial assets, as well as issues regarding family trusts and business interests. Recent cases have involved disputes over various trust funds, company valuations, share portfolios and local property.

Our Personal Law team in Jersey also has a highly regarded criminal law practice, including money-laundering, fraud, licensing issues and drug-related offences. Additionally, another very important area of service in Jersey is Legal Aid. As such services are not supported by public funds, the legal system relies on locally qualified lawyers and advocates to represent those people who cannot afford a lawyer. We are committed to supporting our local community and take this function and our devotion to service excellence very seriously.
