Tim Counsell

Timothy Counsell is a partner and the Bermuda Team Leader of the Banking & Asset Finance team within the Corporate & Commercial department. He practises in the area of asset-backed finance transactions and specialises in aircraft and shipping financing and registrations.

Tim joined Appleby in 1990 as an associate in the Corporate & Commercial department. He became a partner in 1998 and Team Leader of the Banking & Asset Finance team in 2001.

In 2009 IFLR100 named him as a ‘Leading Lawyer’ in the Financial and Corporate category and most recently he was awarded a Recommended rating for Banking and Finance in the PLC Which Lawyer? Individual Recommendation league. Chambers Global 2012 described Tim as 'particular expertise in aircraft and shipping finance' Clients say he 'takes great care of the client's needs.'

Tim served on the Bermuda Bar Council from 1995 to 2000 and has participated in a number of sub-committees of the Bar Council in respect of various corporate matters, the continuing education programme implemented by Bar Council in 1999, and production of pupillage guidelines for the Bar Association membership.

Tim graduated from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, with a BSc in 1980, received the Certificate of Honours Standing in 1982, received an M.Sc. in microbiology and immunology in 1986 and his LLB in 1988, all from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
