Tammy Richardson-Augustus is a partner and a member of the Banking & Asset Finance team within the Corporate & Commercial department. She qualified in 1997 and became a partner in 2007. Tammy joined the group as an associate in the Corporate & Commercial department in 1998, practising securities and funds work in both the Bermuda and Hong Kong offices of the firm. She then enjoyed some time as a stagiare in the eCommerce and general corporate department of Linklaters in London.

Tammy maintains a diversified business transactions practice, with emphasis on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, capital markets and securities, secured and unsecured lending transactions and general corporate governance matters. She has extensive experience working with clients in a wide range of industries, including in energy, oil and gas exploration, and maritime shipping.

She has been awarded many professional accolades throughout her career. Most recently she was recognised in Legal 500 2010/2011 as acting for HSBC Bank of Bermuda as lender in the US$200 million loan facility referred to in 'Expertise'. In the 2004/2005 Chambers & Partners Client Guide she was recognised as a 'promising' lawyer in Bermuda.

In 2012 IFLR1000 named Tammy as a 'Leading Lawyer' in the Financial and Corporate category.

Tammy is a member of the Bermuda Bar Association and is a justice of the peace.

Examples of recent client transactions include advising:

  • Ecopetrol S.A. in relation to its US$690 million acquisition of Propilco (the largest producer of polypropylene and petrochemical manufacturer in Colombia)  
  • De Beers in relation to the sale of its entire 75% equity shareholding and all of its claims over Williamson Diamonds Limited  to Petra Diamonds Limited through the sale of 100% of Willcroft Company Limited, a Bermuda exempted company, for a consideration of US$10 million 
  • Sea Containers Ltd., a Bermuda exempted company operating a global marine container leasing business, in its restructuring and emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2009 following the transfer of the company's maritime container business to SeaCo Ltd. and subsequently representing SeaCo Ltd. in connection with US$127million financing provided by Fortis Bank NV and DVB Bank AG
  • HSBC Bank of Bermuda Limited (as lender) in connection with a US$200 million bridge loan facility agreement to the Government of Bermuda (as borrower)
  • HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. (underwriter) in respect of the offering by the Government of Bermuda of US$500 million aggregate principal amount of 5.603% senior notes due 2020
  • Floatel Superior Ltd. and Floatel Reliance Ltd. in connection with the financing, delivery and registration under the Bermuda flag of certain semi-submersible accommodation and multi-service units (floatels) 'MV Floatel Superior' and 'MV Floatel Reliance' respectively.

education

Tammy was educated in Bermuda, Canada and England. She studied at Saint Mary’s University, Canada and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (with majors in accounting and economics) in 1993. She then read law at the University of Bristol, England, graduating in 1996 with an LLB (Hons).  She remained at Bristol to complete her solicitor's finals (Legal Practice Course) for which she received commendation.   Tammy has also passed all four parts of the certified public accountancy (CPA) examination
