Peter Bubenzer is the Group Chairman of Appleby. He is also a member of the Corporate Finance, Telecommunications, Technology and Intellectual Property teams.
Peter joined the group as an associate in the Litigation and Insolvency department in October 1980 and became a partner in December 1986. He became Head of the Corporate and Commercial department in 1993 and became Managing Partner of the Bermuda Office and the Group in 2002. He was elected Group Chairman in 2011.
Peter has experience in the full range of corporate and commercial law specialising in advising on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and securities work including private offerings of debt or equity and public offerings of debt or equity of companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, the LSE and the Bermuda Stock Exchange and advising on corporate governance.
Peter has written for a number of international legal publications including Managing Partner, Legal Week and The Lawyer. He is a frequent commentator on the development of international offshore law firms, quoted in Legal Business, The Lawyer, Legal Week and The American Lawyer.
Peter has been ranked in numerous international legal publications throughout his career. Most recently he earned a ‘Highly Recommended’ rating for Corporate/M&A in the PLC Which Lawyer? Individual Recommendation league. Other accolades include Chambers Global and IFLR1000 for corporate/commercial and Who’s Who Legal for corporate governance. Clients and legal practitioners interviewed by Chambers Global describe Peter as an “Intellectual equal of anyone in the offshore world [who is] strategically minded, politically savvy and commercially sensitive”. Peter was the Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in Bermuda for ten years and is a fluent German speaker. He is a member of the Bermuda Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and an Associate Member of the American Bar Association and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
