John Rimmer specialises in all matters (contentious and non-contentious) concerning the creation, reorganisation and administration of trusts, whether private or commercial, estate planning, including taxation and private international law advice, the administration of estates, and the creation and administration of charities.

He was named as a 'Leader in his Field' by Chambers UK 2012. He was also named as a ‘Leader in his Field’ by Chambers Europe 2011 and 2010. 'Very much the cerebral kind of lawyer', John impresses peers with his expertise in trusts work. 'He’s very approachable and his knowledge of local current issues is second to none' (Chambers Global 2009). Legal 500, 2009 describes John as 'the top choice for trust-related matters'. In PLC Which Lawyer? 2009 John is described as a ‘Leader’ in Banking, Finance and Private Client.

John has written the Manx chapters in Tottel’s International Succession and OUP’s Garb and Wood on International Succession and World Trust Survey. He has also contributed articles on trust and tax related subjects to publications including Private Client Business and Trusts and Trustees, for which he is the Isle of Man correspondent, and presents regularly at conferences, including those of STEP.

He is a recent past Chairman of the Isle of Man branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) as well as being a member of the STEP International Committee. He is also a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians and a member of Clarity, a body that promotes plain English in legal drafting.

John has been named as an expert in the inaugural “Citywealth Offshore Leaders List 2011”, he was also recognised as one of only ten Manx Advocates in the “2012 Citywealth 'Leaders List. John was the only Manx Advocate to be placed on the “Leading Lawyer – Honours List” and the only Manx Advocate to be included in two separate lists with his selection for the “Leading Lawyer – Contentious Trusts – Prominent figure” List.

These annual lists aim to highlight the best of those individuals working in the wealth management sector and are selected by recommendations from global peers.
