Advocate Georgina ('George') Cook is a partner in the Property department in the Jersey office. She joined the firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2008.

George focuses on all aspects of commercial property law, including sales and acquisitions, and development, and undertakes a large amount of commercial leasehold work, both for landlords and tenants. In addition, she advises on general liquor licensing matters for local bars, pubs and restaurants, and appears regularly in the Royal Court of Jersey.


George was named as a ‘Leader in her Field’ by Chambers Europe 2011 and 2010. She was also listed as ‘up and coming’ by Chambers Europe 2009.

She is a member of the Jersey Law Society.

George frequently writes articles on property-related topics and is a regular contributor to Homelife magazine.

She also speaks at seminars on property matters and recently spoke on the subject of ‘Key Issues to Consider in New Lettings’ at a seminar held at The Royal Yacht Hotel on 16 February 2011.

Some recent examples of work include advising:
  • The joint administrators of collapsed retailer Woolworths plc (in administration) in the sale of the leases of its Jersey store to the New Look fashion group, and advising in relation to other Jersey property interests


  • Dandara: in the structuring of its Saviour's Place residential development and the sale of units 'off plan' to intending occupiers and investor; in the completion of its Fourteen Gloucester Street development, a mixed-use scheme including 72 apartments and a medical and dental facility; on its ‘Castle Quay’ development, comprising approximately three hundred apartments together with commercial units and public spaces. In addition to the complex structuring and sales work, Appleby concluded the land acquisition from Waterfront Enterprise Board Limited together with a £70 million loan facility from HSBC Bank plc and Lloyds TSB Offshore Limited


  • International property group Mapeley in the Jersey property security aspects of a global refinancing of a £257 million loan facility from Royal Bank of Scotland plc requiring liaison with multiple counsel (for the borrowing group and the funders), including the Appleby office in Bermuda


  • Alpha Airport Group in relation to liquor licensing in connection with the creation of a new 'World Duty Free' lounge at Jersey Airport departures hall
