David Lines is a partner and Local Team Leader of the Insurance team within the Corporate & Commercial department. He practises corporate and insurance law specialising in corporate finance, corporate structuring and general insurance regulatory matters. David advises on a wide variety of matters for a client base that is dominated by Fortune 500 companies.

He has been involved with many structured finance deals, particularly for insurance and reinsurance companies.

David trained with City of London law firm DJ Freeman (Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP) and was admitted to the Law Society of England and Wales in November 1995. On qualification he joined their insurance and shipping department where he ultimately specialised in insurance-related corporate work. In 1997 he returned to Bermuda and joined Appleby.

Chambers and Partners ranked David as ‘Band 1’ Corporate and Finance Lawyer in their 2008 guide. Recently, he was named in Chambers Global ‘The World's Leading Lawyers’. Chambers Global 2012 described David as a leading lawyer with strengths in corporate structuring, corporate finance and insurance regulatory work. Clients say: "His work is top-notch and he does a very impressive job of advising clients on tough issues."

David is also a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee of the Bermuda Monetary Authority and its Acts and Regulations sub-committee. He was a member of the team that co-authored Bermuda’s electronic commerce legislation, the Electronic Transactions Act 1999. He speaks and writes frequently on Insurance and e-commerce topics.

education

David obtained a BSc in Politics and International Relations from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts in 1988 and was awarded the Nicholl Scholarship. He then read law at the Faculty of Laws, University College, London University, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelors of Law (Hons).
