Gareth Russell is the Chief Operating Officer for the Appleby group. Gareth joined Appleby in 2008 as the Group’s first HR director and was appointed COO in 2011. 

He started his professional career in the insurance industry, where he qualified as a chartered insurer before joining Linklaters as HR Manager for the corporate practice in London and then heading the International HR team. He oversaw the HR aspects of Linklaters’ Swedish and German mergers. Before joining Appleby, Gareth spent six years as HR Director for Withers LLP and was heavily involved in their US merger.

As Group Chief Operating Officer Gareth is accountable for the operational effectiveness of the Appleby group and in the implementation of group strategy.

Originally from Scotland, Gareth is now based in Jersey.
