Sonia Starvis is a member in the Property practice group of Appleby's Cayman Islands office. Sonia joined Appleby in November 2009 and has broad real estate and secured lending experience covering all aspects of Cayman Islands based residential and commercial property work. Sonia specialises in the development and leasing of commercial and residential property as well as property related project and acquisition finance.

Prior to joining Appleby, Sonia was a partner at another leading offshore law firm in the Cayman Islands where she worked for 12 years in the real estate and local business group. Whilst there, Sonia advised on a wide range of property and property financing transactions. She is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales and is also a notary public in the Cayman Islands.

Sonia was recognised in the Legal 500 Caribbean’s inaugural real estate rankings as having “broad real estate and secured lending experience”. She has been recognised by PLC Which Lawyer? as a Highly Recommended Lawyer for real estate consistently since 2006 and most recently in the 2010 rankings. She has published articles in the BNAI Journal “Real estate taxes in the Cayman Islands” (2008) and Key to Cayman “The legal and practical considerations of buying property in Cayman” (2009).
