Jayson Wood joined Appleby in 2009 as Counsel in the Litigation & Insolvency department. He has over twenty years legal experience in all aspects of corporate and commercial litigation. 

He previously worked at another global offshore law firm in the BVI, and prior to that he was partner-in-charge of the dispute resolution team of Minter Ellison Lawyers (Gold Coast) in Australia.

Jayson specialises in corporate litigation and insolvency with particular expertise in hedge fund collapses, shareholder disputes, corporate fraud, receiverships/liquidations, and corporate reconstruction. As a corollary to this, he has a wealth of experience undertaking protective measures against companies to preserve assets via the imposition of freezing orders and the appointment of receivers and provisional liquidators where necessary.

Jayson has worked on many of the largest and most complex cross-border corporate disputes being litigated in the BVI, and currently works on some of the largest high profile liquidations, shareholder disputes, and restructurings in the Cayman Islands.

  • In relation to a dispute involving fraud on a massive scale perpetrated against one of the largest Russian investment funds
     
  • On a widely publicised shareholder dispute involving breach of contract and asset misappropriation of up to US$800 million 
     
  • In relation to a claim of fraud against former directors and employees of a major Russian petrochemical company involving the diversion of more than US$47 million
     
  • As lead Cayman Counsel in a $3.5 billion reconstruction via scheme of arrangement of a high profile publicly listed company in Hong Kong
     
  • In the recovery of a US$350 million debt through the liquidation of four Cayman companies controlled by a well-known Fifth Avenue private equity investment manager

 

  • On numerous large receiverships and liquidations of prominent international business companies and hedge funds including representing the liquidators of the Bear Stearns feeder funds in the Cayman Islands
