David is an associate in the Litigation & Insolvency department. Before joining Appleby David was an associate in the commercial litigation and dispute resolution group at SJ Berwin LLP in London.


David joined Appleby with five years of experience in commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He specialises in complex and multi-jurisdictional financial disputes, fraud (including the obtaining and defending of freezing and preservation of asset orders) and has advised clients on a wide range of general company and commercial matters, including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, claims against directors, partnership disputes and claims by and against investors in private equity and hedge fund structures.

Significant dispute cases include defending an investment bank in proceedings relating to the bank’s repurchase business, advising a fund of hedge funds in a dispute with a former investment professional, acting for London’s largest provider of clearing and settlement services in connection with losses it sustained after it fell victim to a 'pump and dump' scheme and advising London's biggest hedge fund in relations to grey-market trading.

In addition, David advised and worked on a number of significant regulatory, criminal and quasi-criminal matters in the UK, including advising:

  • A generic pharmaceutical manufacturer that had been charged with conspiracy to defraud arising out of alleged cartel conduct
  • A hedge fund in relation to disciplinary proceedings brought against it for market abuse
  • An e-money provider in relation to a police investigation arising from the use of the client’s facilities to operate a Ponzi scheme
  • A global investment bank in relation to its role as adviser in a multi-billion-dollar acquisition of a target company having significant corruption and proceeds of crime risks
