Chris Cheng is an associate of the Hong Kong office and a member of the Corporate & Commercial department. Chris joined Appleby in September 2007, having previously worked as an associate at an international law firm in Hong Kong.

Chris practises in the area of capital markets, specialising in private and public offerings of debt and equity, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, as well as bank financing and other corporate and commercial law related transactions. Clients include Bermuda, Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands entities, many of which are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Singapore Stock Exchange, as well as banks and financial institutions.

Chris is registered with the Bermuda Bar and as a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.  He is a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong and the Law Society of England & Wales. 

Chris is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

  • China Lumena Materials Corp. as Cayman and BVI counsel in relation to its acquisition of Sino Polymer New Materials Co. Ltd., the consideration of which is about US$1.5 billion
  • A PRC state-owned enterprise as BVI counsel in relation to its US$2 billion guaranteed senior notes offering
  • China New Town Development Company Limited (CNTD), a BVI company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, in relation to its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.  CNTD is the first BVI company listed on both the Hong Kong and Singapore Stock Exchanges
  • China Lumena New Materials Corp. (formerly known as Lumena Resources Corp.) as Cayman and BVI counsel in relation to its US$170 million global offering and listing of its shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange for which Appleby has received an Honourable Mention in the Asian-Counsel Deals of the Year 2009
  • Town Health International Holdings Limited, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as Cayman and Bermuda counsel in relation to its redomiciliation from the Cayman Islands to Bermuda, followed by a capital reduction in Bermuda
