Andrea Moniz-DeSouza is an Associate in the Funds & Investment Services Team within the Corporate & Commercial department. Her practice focuses on the establishment of investment vehicles and advising on company and partnership formation, including issues relating to structuring and operating investment vehicles. Andrea advises investment managers, fund operators and investors on a wide range of investment fund matters, including aspects of corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Andrea has experience in corporate restructurings, continuations and discontinuations, mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, refinancing and redomestications.
In October 2008 she spent 10 months on secondment in the Litigation & Insolvency team. Whilst in the Litigation & Insolvency team, Andrea advised on employment law disputes, property disputes, company law, shareholder disputes and corporate insolvency.
Prior to joining the Appleby Group in June 2007, Andrea specialised in civil and commercial litigation with a local Bermuda firm, where she had also completed her pupilage. Her civil and commercial litigation experience included appearances before the Supreme Court of Bermuda and the Magistrates Court.
Andrea graduated from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Canada in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, which consisted of an exchange program in Salamanca, Spain. In 2002, she obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB Hons) from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Westminster, United Kingdom in 2004. Andrea also holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Wales through Holborn College, United Kingdom (2003).
