Alastair Drummond is Counsel in the Corporate & Commercial department. He specialises in property finance and banking law, and advises both local and international banks. He has acquired extensive experience of acting on the acquisition, disposal and refinancing of Jersey-based property holding structures. Prior to joining Appleby in 2007, Alastair was a senior associate at a major Jersey-based law firm. He became Counsel at Appleby in 2009.

Alastair was recognised in band three for corporate and finance in Chambers Global 2009. The directory stated that his 'amiable character complements a real ability in banking and refinancing work on property matters'.

Prior to joining Appleby in 2007, Alastair was a Senior Associate at Carey Olsen's Jersey office. He became Counsel in 2009.

Some recent examples of work include advising:

  • US real estate investment group Crescent Heights in relation to corporate law matters on its acquisition of Land Securities’ interests in Warner House, Theobald’s Road, London for £43 million. The transaction is Miami-based Crescent Heights’ first in the UK, and signals renewed activity in the UK commercial property market
  • Alchemy Partners, a British private equity company, in relation to a £90 million management buyout (MBO) of Noonan Services Group Limited, a Jersey-registered contract cleaning and facilities management group
  • German fund manager Pramerica Real Estate Investors (Deutschland) GMBH in connection with the acquisition of a Jersey property unit trust from Henderson Global Investors. The trust owns 50 Broadway, London, SW1, which includes the headquarters of law firm Bircham Dyson Bell
  • On a continuing basis Standard Chartered Private Bank on new product and transaction documentation, particularly for Korean and Malaysian investments and additionally in conjunction with the integration of American Express Bank, including reviewing account credit and security documentation, and investment terms and conditions
  • A leading investor and private equity fund manager and its portfolio companies active in the energy sector in Russia, India and other transforming markets on a bridging facility of US$210 million for significant investment in oil and gas assets
  • Credit Suisse, a world-leading financial services company, as Jersey counsel in relation to a US$60 million loan facility with accompanying warrants. The borrower was a Jersey company called West China Cement Ltd, a joint-stock enterprise integrating cement production and sales with registered capital of RMB530 million yuan
  • Atrium European Real Estate Limited on a dual listing of the company’s securities on Euronext Amsterdam and the Vienna Stock Exchange, the first dual listing of this nature for a Jersey company in the alternative funds sector in Western and Central Europe
