Appleby Bermuda Trust lawyer to speak on FATCA and CRS at International Taxation Conference
Ashley Fife speaks on “How FATCA and CRS have changed the world as we knew it”
Appleby Bermuda Senior Associate Ashley Fife will be giving a presentation on the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) at the 2017 International Taxation Conference taking place in New York City on 26 January. The conference features exceptional speakers, specialist sessions and interactive case studies.
Mr Fife’s presentation titled “How FATCA and CRS have changed the world as we knew it” will be co-delivered with Managing and Co-Founding Partner Jack Brister of International Wealth Tax Advisors. The session will compare the differences between the U.S. FATCA and the CRS and explore the impact these compliance regimes are imposing on global financial markets, institutions and individual investors.
The International Taxation Conference is an annual event covering the critical issues pertaining to foreign investments, tax evasion, privacy entitlements and anti-money laundering initiatives. This highly regarded event will feature eight of the leading international practitioners, including Mr Fife and Mr Brister.
Mr Fife is a Senior Associate in the Bermuda office whose practice focuses on private client and commercial trust structures with a particular emphasis on complex family office structures. Mr Fife said, “Automatic exchange of information is the latest initiative which aims to eliminate tax evasion globally. This is a laudable objective. However the scope of exchange of information under CRS in particular raises serious questions about data protection, privacy and the safety of tax compliant individuals. I am excited to be representing Appleby and to be speaking alongside Mr Brister at the International Taxation Conference.”
