World Alternative Investment Summit Bermuda (WAIS)
Appleby Bermuda Partners Tonesan Amissah and Steven Rees Davies will be speaking at the World Alternative Investment Summit (WAIS) in Bermuda on 11 to 13 October. The 2nd annual conference features panel discussions with top-level international speakers, fund managers, investors and leading service providers. The conference brings delegates together to explore every side of alternative investments. Speakers include Major League Baseball star Darryl Strawberry and former National Basketball Association player and Olympian Charles D. Smith. Tonesan Amissah will be speaking on the panel titled ‘Fund structuring, compliance and governance issues facing offshore funds’ on 12 October. The discussion will include factors to consider in setting up an offshore structure, types of legal structures regulatory and ongoing compliance issues, as well as operational considerations and independent fund directorship.
Steven Rees Davies will be speaking on the panel titled ‘Blockchain technology, cybersecurity, internet of things, big data – the new world is here’ on 13 October. The discussion will focus on how blockchain technology advancement continues to drive economic growth, and in many cases, unleash disruptive change.
Tonesan is a partner within the Corporate department and leads the Funds and Investment Services team. She specialises in the structuring, formation and day to day operations of a wide range of investment vehicles, including mutual funds, hedge funds, unit trusts, private equity, segregated account companies, partnerships, and master/feeder structures. Tonesan is also involved with other debt and equity financings, bond issues, project finance, M&A transactions and the structuring and offering of listed securities.
Steven Rees Davies is a partner within the Corporate department. He practises in the areas of corporate finance, capital markets, regulation and intellectual property. Steven has represented clients in a wide variety of cross jurisdictional corporate transactions and restructurings as well as private and public offerings, placements and introductions to the Bermuda, London and New York stock exchanges. His Bermuda and international corporate and regulatory experience covers telecommunications, technology, pharmaceutical, energy, inter-governmental and software industry sectors as well as corporate governance and constitutional advisory work.
