Appleby Bermuda Counsel Gavin Woods to speak on ILS
at annual captives and insurance summit
Topics include: Insurance-Linked Security structures, special purpose insurers and market statistics
Appleby Counsel Gavin Woods will be speaking at the 13th Annual Canadian Captives and Corporate Insurance Strategies Summit to be held 5-6 June in Toronto. The conference is a must-attend event for risk managers and current and prospective captive owners and will focus on captive strategies. The conference features exceptional risk managers and captive practitioners from several of the top financial institutions, and the topics will focus on captive strategies for boosting captive performance, investment strategies, risk management and performance assessment.
Mr Wood’s presentation titled “Insurance-Linked Securities: Launch Your Company’s Own Insurer to Offload Risk and Raise Capital” will provide a comprehensive analysis of Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) and discuss the means by which insurance risk is transferred to the capital markets. The presentation will explore how Bermuda, the domicile with more than half of the world’s ILS market capitalization and one of the world’s largest captive domiciles, can help investors form and administer a tailored ILS structure.
Mr Woods is Counsel within the Corporate department of Appleby’s Bermuda office and a member of the Insurance team. He specialises in corporate finance, corporate structuring and insurance regulatory matters. He also has particular experience in the incorporation and licensing of (re)insurance companies, alternative risk financing vehicles (such as cat bonds and insurance-linked securities), listing on the Bermuda Stock Exchange, segregated account structures, securitisations and derivative transactions.
Mr Woods said, “Representing Bermuda at such a fantastic conference is a privilege, and I look forward to my presentation. Bermuda continues to show that it is ahead of the pack in terms of administering ILS structures, and our corporate governance and ILS service providers are ideally suited to manage captive insurance needs. I look forward to sharing that message in Toronto.”
