Appleby, the world’s largest offshore law firm, has announced the promotion of two lawyers as Partners and the appointment of five lawyers as Counsel to the firm.The new internal appointments, which are effective from 1 April 2010, follow the announcement earlier this month that five high profile partners have joined the firm from other offshore law firms. The new Counsel and partner promotions will further reinforce the firm’s significant capability in Corporate and Commercial, Real Estate, Litigation and Insolvency, Trusts and Family across its worldwide offices.
The two new partners are:
Naomi Rive is based in Jersey in the Channel Islands and advises on all aspects of trusts. She represents international private banks, trust companies, private individuals and families as well as trustees, beneficiaries and protectors. She is qualified as both an English barrister and a Jersey Advocate and was highlighted as “one to watch” in the 2009 Chambers and Partners UK legal directory,
Charles Davies based in the Isle of Man, specialises in complex corporate and commercial disputes and arbitration often with a shipping focus. He advises on commercial, corporate and trust disputes and represents major corporate service providers, London insurers and leading international law firms.
The lawyers promoted as Counsel to the firm are:
Miriam Daugherty based in the Isle of Man is a member of the Litigation and Insolvency practice group. She specialises in personal injury and clinical negligence, and has particular experience in claims for catastrophic injuries, industrial deafness, stress and sexual abuse. She represents insurance companies in complex and high value litigation as well as cases involving the Police including wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution.
Jeremy Leese based in the British Virgin Islands is part of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group. He specialises in corporate and structured finance, M&A, banking and international real estate finance and clients include banks and financial institutions, global corporates, investment advisers, real estate funds, trusts and fund administrators. Jeremy is recognised by the PLC M&A Handbook as a leader in BVI M&A and structured finance transactions.
Andrew Webb is in the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group in the Isle of Man and specialises in high value banking and asset finance transactions. He is also a leading bankruptcy practitioner acting as a Trustee in major cases and for the liquidator in the long running BCCI case.
Paul Branford is also based in the Isle of Man and part of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group. He is experienced in a wide range of corporate, commercial, insurance and regulatory issues and specialises in offshore financial services, including fund formation, restructuring, refinancing and termination. He was named as a leader in his field by Chambers and Partners 2010 European legal directory.
Victoria Myerson leads the Family Law Practice Group in Jersey. She specialises in matrimonial disputes for substantial individuals and families particularly relating to the division of significant assets, family trust and business interests, often in excess of £25m. She is qualified as an English barrister and a Jersey Advocate.
