working & living in Mauritius

Mauritius is located southeast off the coast of Africa, approximately 900 kilometres east of Madagascar.  Its location makes it a strategically important jurisdiction for doing business in India and Africa and therefore the type of work our fiduciary team and lawyers are involved in is international and varied by nature.

The rapid economic growth since the 1980s has enabled Mauritius to become an attractive environment for banks, insurance and reinsurance companies, captive insurance managers, ship owners and managers, fund managers and other professionals.

English is the official language in Mauritius, although French Creole is the most widely spoken.  The population of 1.2 million is made up of the principal ethnic groups of Asian, African, European, Chinese and French but its transformation from an economy based largely on agriculture to growing industries such as tourism, manufacturing and financial services means people from further afield are attracted to living and working in Mauritius.

Mauritius has over 300 kilometres of stunning coast line with a rich and diverse mix of forests and mountains covering most of the island.  Coupled with an emphasis on family and social values, Mauritius is a great place to live and work.

The Appleby Mauritius team will provide you all the necessary support to make your time in Mauritius enjoyable and professionally challenging.
